Today Baranggay Election is being held, and for me its an ordinary monday morning except the fact that I don’t have work. Well that’s one of the few benefits of election in my opinion. I am 29 years old but i haven’t voted yet, actually I didn’t even registered to be a voter and my reason is quite simple I don’t want to vote. And people always ask me why? They say it’s our way to exercise our rights and democracy. And I say this is my way of exercising my democracy by not voting. I think whoever you vote does not change a thing even if they win, it is our system. Do you think they would still remember you after election? Maybe, if they are your friends or relatives or maybe not if your just another vote they need for them to win. I’ve done some research why people run for offices in our government, even in Baranggay Elections. Did you know a Bgy Captain’s salary ranges from P7,000 to 11,000 depending on the class of their municipality aside from their budget for their constituents and Baranggay. Senator’s salary P35,000/mo. and a fixed monthly budget of about 2M pesos. P200 milyon are their budget for the Pork Barrel in a year, automatically 10% of it or P20 M are for their pockets multiply it to the years they SERVE? our country. Are you aware how much debt we owe from foreign countries? How many regimes has passed since you were born? Did any one of those solved our way of life, the filipino life? What does your local officials did to improve your way of living? I am not pointing each official to be corrupt, I just wish they do their job with all honesty and dignity. Because for a common Filipino who barely gets thru their daily life, they might be the solution to their problem or so they think.
I’ve included the salary of government employees as of 2001 which I stumbled upon on the net(does not include budgets). Step 1 being the entry-level amount to Step 8 as the highest amount a particular position can get.
